Samahang Magdalo partners with PIA in environmental conservation

By Johny Natad
BUTUAN CITY, August 16 – The Samahang Magdalo collaborates with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA-Caraga) for the environmental conservation advocacy on Mount Mayapay.
Samahang Magdalo Caraga Regional Coordinator Michael Leo Cane Torralba said that his group believes that PIA-Caraga can be an effective partner in this particular endeavour and in mainstreaming advocacy to government interventions and development programs.
“We believe that PIA-Caraga has enough communications facilities and competent manpower to inform the general public on such government programs and advocacies; dissemination of relevant, timely and accurate news updates and information; and to implement relevant promotion and advocacy activities, especially about environmental concerns,” Torralba said.
PIA Caraga Regional Director Abner Caga bared that the Samahang Magdalo has been a partner of PIA for the past years in different advocacies.
“Their group has been engaging the office in other advocacies,” he said.
Caga stated that preserving Mt. Mayapay, as a national heritage is a very serious concern that needs multi-sectoral partnerships and endeavour among different stakeholders.
He also emphasized the role and responsibility of everyone in protecting and preserving Mt. Mayapay.
“Partnering with Samahang Magdalo is a good opportunity for us to do appropriate information interventions, in effect putting substance to our mandate,” Caga said. (JSN/PIA-Caraga/asf)
