By Jennifer P. Gaitano

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 19 (PIA) – To enhance information dissemination of Science and Technology to the public, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has partnered with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga to achieve effectiveness in S&T promotion.

DOST-Caraga Regional Director Dominga Mallonga said the department believed that PIA can effectively respond to the information needs of the citizens whether in the provinces or in the regions.

“PIA empowers its organization to provide adequate information to the public to make better decisions and help identify opportunities that could improve people’s quality of life. We know that one of the agency’s major functions is assisting government agencies in relaying information through various media outlets. We also commend the efforts of our PIA-Caraga partner for establishing their own radio station – the Power FM,” said Mallonga.

Also, Mallonga acknowledged the communication strategies of PIA to effectively reach the public such the SMS/textblast, press/photo releases, posting of news/updates at the PIA’s social networking sites (Facebook and Twitter); One Mindanao Electronic News Magazine. “Relevant, accurate, and reliable information are disseminated by PIA in real time,” she said.

Mallonga added “while DOST has the content, PIA has the means and the channel to disseminate information effectively to a wider audience. Through PIA, DOST’s promotion activities will be facilitated. Through this strategy, the partnership can help promote technology transfer activities of DOST for the micro, small and medium enterprises in improving their efficiency and productivity.

Mallonga further bared that the partnership also involved four major components, namely: conduct of round table discussion on improving DOST’s communication strategy; conduct seminar/workshop on enhancing communication skills among DOST personnel; and upgrading of PIA technologies and organizing Caraga S&T media core.

Meanwhile, both parties will officially be signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) today at the DOST-Caraga regional office.(JPG/PIA-Caraga)
