LGU recognizes Butuanon's contribution toClean and Zero Waste program

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 12 (PIA) - Butuanon's efforts in helping maintain the city government's Clean Ground Zero Waste Program were recognized during its second anniversary celebration.

Butuan City officials led by Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr., members of the different committees under the CGZW Program, barangay captains/punong barangays, Sangguniang Panlungsod members, representatives of government agencies, teachers, pupils, and other guests gathered on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at the city hall grounds for the event.

During the program, art works/crafts from waste materials by the students from the private and public schools were also displayed for public viewing.

City Administrator Leah Mendoza urged attendees to continue maintaining a clean community and a clean home.

"Let's make cleanliness a part of our daily living," she added.

Dr. Virgilio Nery Jr., Butuan City councilor and chairperson of the Clean Streets Committee under the CGZW Program, lauded the unified efforts of the local officials, members of the different committees, barangay eco-marshals, government agencies, media partners and the general public for taking its role and continuously cooperating and supporting the program and making it successful. "Though we have achieved this far, there's still so much to be done," he said.

Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr of Butuan City recognized the valuable efforts of Butuanons in the implementation of the city govt's Clean Ground Zero Waste Program, reminding attendees that 'Cleanliness is next to Godliness'.

Among  other government agencies, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Caraga headed by Regional Director Abner Caga received the Certificate of Recognition from Mayor Amante, as Best Regional Line Agency Program Implementor and for achieving the best practice of Waste Segregation at Source.

Mayor Amante also awarded with plaques and certificates of recognition the members of the Youth for Environment in Schools (YES) for Zero Waste Butuan, who has been active in environmental activities in their respective schools.

The Clean Ground Zero Waste Movement of the Butuan City government is aimed to facilitate a social transformation processes among residents to manifest the desired behavior of segregating waste at source, cleaning the surroundings and converting wastes into money; and massive conversion of waste into organic fertilizers (biodegradables) by the organic fertilizer production facilities and useful materials (non-biodegradables).(JPG/PIA-Caraga)
