NGCP prepares for Typhoon Yolanda

By MIlfrance Capulong BUTUAN CITY, Nov. 7 (PIA) - The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has implemented the necessary preparations and precautions to minimize the impact of Typhoon Yolanda on NGCP operations and facilities. Preparation included ensuring the reliability of communications equipment, availability of hardware materials and supplies necessary for the repair of damages to facilities, as well as the positioning of line crews in strategic areas, to facilitate immediate restoration work. NGCP’s Integrated Disaster Action Plan (IDAP) prescribes these and other procedures to ensure the readiness of all power transmission facilities expected to be affected by the passage of the weather disturbance. Typhoon Yolanda has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 12:00 AM today. Based on PAGASA’s forecast, it is expected to move West Northwest at 30kph with a maximum sustained wind of 215kph and gustiness of 250kph. NGCP’s Overall Disaster Command Center monitors all power restoration activities, reports, and updates from the Regional Command Centers in North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, whichever is directly affected by the weather disturbance. NGCP announces scheduled power interruption in parts of Surigao Norte, Surigao Sur, entire Siargao Island

BUTUAN CITY, Sept.  13 (PIA) - The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced on Thursday, the scheduled shutdown of the transmission facilities in some areas of Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and entire Siargao Island from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Milfrance Q. Capulong, NGCP Mindanao Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Officer, said the affected utilities are the Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative (SURNECO), Siargao Island Electric Cooperative (SIARELCO) and Surigao del Sur Electric Cooperative (SURSECO II).

Capulong said the specific cities and municipalities that will be affected by the power interruption include the municipalities of Alegria, Mainit, Tubod, Placer, Bacuag, Gigaquit and Claver, Surigao del Norte; Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte; and municipalities of Carrascal, Cantilan, Madrid, Carmen and Lanuza, Surigao del Sur.

NGCP explained to its customers and the public clients that the power interruption was due to the re-scheduled tapping of newly re-routed section from structures BM321 up to BM325 at Adlay, Carrascal, Surigao del Sur, affected by road widening of the Department of Public Works and Highways and rehabilitation of four critical structures.

NGCP announces scheduled power interruption in parts of Surigao Sur

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, August 30 (PIA) -- The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced the scheduled shutdown of the transmission facilities in the Lianga to Tandag City areas from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31.

In a written communication received from the office of the Surigao del Sur Electric Cooperative II (SURSECO II), the scheduled power interruption will pave way for the conduct of a rehabilitation of the 50 critical and dilapidated structures along the municipalities of Barobo - Cagwait and Tandag City Transmission line.

According to SURSECO II, the power interruption will affect some areas under the first district of this province, these are the municipalities of Lianga; San Agustin; Marihatag; Cagwait; Bayabas; Tago; San Miguel, Cortes and Tandag City.

The normal operations will immediately resume after work completion and power will be restored anytime without prior notice.

With this, the public is advised to take necessary preparations and precautions for the anticipated scheduled shutdown. (NGBT/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
