Surigao Sur Gawad Kalasag winners bared

SURIGAO DEL SUR, Aug. 6 (PIA) -- The municipality of Hinatuan was adjudged winner for the 3rd-5th class municipal category, while Barangay San Juan in Hinatuan won this year’s regional awarding in the prestigious 2013 Gawad “Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan” (Kalasag) regional search for excellence in Disaster Risk Management (DRM).

PDRRMO Disaster Program Specialist Abel de Guzman said the province of Surigao del Sur was also awarded third place of the five provinces in Caraga. The awarding ceremony was held in Butuan City last week.

According to De Guzman, the recognition was based on the 2012 performance accomplishments of the local government unit report on disaster prevention and mitigation; disaster preparedness; disaster response and; disaster rehabilitation and recovery.

The executive summary and other supporting documents were also included as means of verification during the validation conducted on the month of May this year with the team evaluators, de Guzma added.

The “Gawad Kalasag” award is a recognition scheme in its search for excellence on DRM and humanitarian assistance.(FEA/NGBT/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
