By Jennifer P. Gaitano

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 25 (PIA) - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga announced that the agency is open for partnership with other partner stakeholders from different sectors for the continued implementation of the country’s National Greening Program.

DENR-Caraga Regional Executive Director Nonito Tamayo, encouraged other stakeholders, sectoral groups to join them in the implementation of the National Greening Program in Caraga region.

"We are always open to having partnerships with other sectors in our reforestation activities. Every barangay is also encouraged to put up its own nursery, non-government organizations to submit proposal for this purpose and DENR will help provide the funds," he said.

Tamayo also said that there is no better place to plant trees but in Caraga. “We continue to plant cacao, coffee, rubber, fruit trees, and including mangroves,” he added.

Tamayo further emphasized that this kind of activity will solve the poverty in the uplands and revive the wood industry, to which Caraga is known for it. This also shows support to President Benigno S. Aquino's initiative.

“For those sectors who are interested to join us, the DENR will provide you the area where to plant, the seedlings, and monetary requirements for this purpose. We need volunteers who have the heart and love for our environment. Surely, the 100,000 hectares target until 2016 will be achieved and even more if we all coordinate and work together,” stressed Tamayo.

Recently, the DENR has signed a Memorandum of Partnership (MOP) with Agusan National High School (ANHS) Class 1990 for the Mangrove Planting for a cause activity set on November 16, 2013 in Barangay Lumbocan, this city. It is the first MOP signed by DENR with other partner stakeholders. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)
