IT-Business Process Management industry brings change to countryside talents

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 19 (PIA) – As the Information Technology – Business Process Management (IT-BPM) and ITPreneurship Road Show in the Next Wave Cities opens today at the Almont Hotel’s Inland Resort here, an Information and Communication Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-ICTO) official stressed that the IT-BPM industry is bringing change to country side talents.

"The Information and Communications Technology industry is bringing change in the countryside today. We have better employment rate in the country because of this industry and even the persons with disabilities are being hired in this industry," said DOST-ICTO Deputy Executive Director Monchito Ibrahim.

Ibrahim also said that the ICT industry has put the Philippines in the map. "We need to sustain our global competency. Filipinos are really good in Animation and Games Development Industry," he said.

Ibrahim added that there are many opportunities in Butuan City. “We need to level up and see more dynamism in Butuan so we can accommodate and provide more employment to countryside talents especially that your city has produced many good graduates,” he said.

Information Technology and Business Processing Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) figures showed about 777,000 jobs were employed in the IT-BPM industry in 2012 and gained 13.2 billion US$ revenue with 5.5 percent of gross domestic product.  And this year, 2013, we need to raise the global standards. The one that we want to give focus to is be in the next wave cities and to increase employment rate.  It is also expected to achieve a growth of 1.3 million direct employment by 2016 with 25 billion US$ in 2016 in IT-BPM Revenue.

Ronald Arambulo, executive director for finance and shared services, of IBPAP shared that the Philippines ranked no. 1 Voice Outsourcing Destination in the world, and ranked no. 2 as Global Outsourcing Destination.
